Our core purpose is to lead inclusive people in society towards a dignified life by creating lasting solutions to the injustice of poverty. We believe in courage and potentials of human beings and we trust that with the sustenance, people would find ways to provide for their families, to build strong communities, and to effect positive social changes for children.

VOICE use combination of education and training programs, advocacy and lobbying, livelihood support, and disaster risk reduction to improve livelihoods, to balance inequities, to integrate vulnerable communities, to promote health and to foster social and economic development; and thereby towards empowering inclusive groups.

OUR VALUES

Inclusion:

We have selected a ‘People-Centered’ approach in leading all our stakeholders towards a dignified life while we highly value the involvements and commitments of the diversity of beneficiaries, partners, volunteers and staff. VOICE touches the lives of thousands all around Sri Lanka.

Sustainability:

We use an ‘Evidence-Based approach’ towards developing strategies that produce sustainable results. We are temporary performers and we focus our framework and methods on sustainability.

OUR APPROACH

The approach towards ‘Empowerment’ by VOICE is gained by years of experience in linking the right people together to facilitate the exchange of skills and knowledge that are necessary to recreate dignified life. Among all nations, throughout their generations ‘Poverty’ has always played an evident role, testing the levels of tolerance within every individual. In a third world country as in Sri Lanka, there are thousands who suffer from severe hunger and poverty.

Work at VOICE is well-versed by an understanding that:

Poverty results from a lack of opportunities, capacities, knowledge and influence towards the poor people, including youth

Poverty is experienced in different ways by women and men, by children and elders, by abled and disabled

Previous war and political instability, national debt, discrimination and social inequality and vulnerability to natural disasters are the significant trends which contributed towards the enhancement of the poverty

Realizing and assuring the rights of particularly disadvantaged and vulnerable people is a central development challenge at present

Influence and participation for the decision-making process can be exercised through empowering people. Civil societies, the private sector and the government have critical roles to play in addressing the barriers to fulfill the participation of poor and marginalized people towards the decision-making processes.

Strategic support of VOICE could help to build the capacities of local government departments, civil society organizations, enterprises and business associations. Furthermore, the relationships between them has the ability to enhance the influence, participation and opportunities of poor and marginalized people.
