Sri Lankans are undergoing difficulties in the current context of economic recession. The breadwinners from middle class and below are struggling to manage even their essential family needs due to limited income, price hikes, and less opportunities to earn more. Mostly affected are the people with disability, who have been considered as non-productive dependents of the family. Yet, there are many who have skill, knowledge and talents that could contribute to the family economy. This portal is to market their crafts that demonstrate their abilities, and to defeat their disability as productive contributors to their family economy.

Handicraft-making

Handicraft-making is an opportunity to express creativity and improve fine motor skills of persons with disabilities. Many crafts, such as knitting, crocheting, and painting, require precise hand movements and attention to detail. These activities can help to improve coordination and dexterity, which can be especially beneficial for those with physical and intellectual disabilities. Besides, handicrafts also have a positive impact on mental wellbeing. Engaging in a creative activity can provide a sense of accomplishment and boost self-esteem. It can also serve as a form of stress relief and provide a sense of relaxation.
